Job Title: Telecommunications Engineer
Location: Cape Town
Duties & Responsibilities:
This is an experienced position with strong to excellent product knowledge especially in the optical domain products – say Ciena / Cisco / ASN
Able to understand project overview and perform site survey as per customer requirement by gathering all infrastructure requirement, Technical information and raise action points to validate the issues observed.
Able to provide solution based on customer requirement without violating telecom standards.
Able to generate IRM based on site survey report and Installation handbook.
Installation of ETSI / PTE2k rack, PFE Rack, server rack, odf rack, etc as per RFV of IHB on various floor condition as per survey report agreed by customer.
Able to lead the team to construct cable tray, fiber tray and c-channel structure under the tile or overhead based on seismic zone.
Able to Commissioning of DWDM, OTN equipment’s of Ciena 6500-2, 14, and 32 slots Wave Server, RLS & other Equipment from Cisco, ASN, etc.
Planning the Network for CIENA on Packet Optical Transport Equipment – Active Flex OME 6500 SDH/DWDM Configurable 7slot/ 14slot/ 32slot Chassis & Wave Server, RLS & other Equipment from Cisco, ASN, etc. others.
Providing Commissioning & Provisioning parameters for each node in the network.
Ability to lead, supervise and direct assignments to meet delivery commitment to customer
Ability to lead and guide onsite team for the activities detailed below along with carrying out the acceptance testing, documentation, link integration & network testing using necessary telecom test equipment like OSA, 10/100G OTN, VFS, VOA, etc.
Complete the Installation of the hardware as required on customer sites and perform preliminary testing of associated hardware to support successful job completion.
Inventory the hardware and job-related material
Physically build the product following the hardware job specifications and drawings working with the team as well independently.
Understand and use established safety practices.
Understand quality requirements and have the ability to implement quality control processes.
Read and interpret engineering specs, prints, and drawings.
Able to handle hardware and electrical tools as per standards.
Perform all physical and mechanical installation activities.
Maintain on-site job records and administration tracking.
Perform power verification, perform power and grounding installations on equipment and small power plants and power-up of equipment.
Plan, manage logistics and execute physical installation of hardware on one or multiple sites.
Ability to perform advanced hardware, functional, and network testing of OEM products in presence of customer at site and support successful job completion with high quality while meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
Perform preliminary hardware testing.
Perform advanced hardware and functional testing on multiple product types.
Understand how to properly setup and use telecommunication test sets, including VIAVI and EXFO.
Perform in bay testing, trouble shooting and alarm verification.
Analyze and modify operational measurements and parameters.
Perform data fill, management, understand logs and configure network element managers.
Perform multi-product upgrades on in-service equipment.
Provide both pre and post-cutover services supporting the integration or re-arrangement of the customer’s network.
Perform advanced system/network level trouble shooting.
Good experience on various software application (email, Microsoft Office, Excel, Visio, Adobe Pro etc.).
Provide redline documentation (EDPs, IDPs, Network Test Plans, Design Drawings, etc.)
Conduct work assignments, communicate, dress and assist customer in a professional manner.
Able to train and build the team efficiently on-site and remotely.
Desired Experience & Qualification:
2 + Years of on-the-field experience.
Good communication skills.
Work as in a team.
Good Technical Knowledge
5430, CPL, OME6500Series, OME_5430DXC and 5410DXC
DWDM, OTN, SDH Technologies
MS-VISIO, Site Manager, TDS Scripts, Photonic Script MCMON (Channel “Q” Monitoring), Microsoft Word and Excel.
Qualification:
Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communication Engineering or
Equivalent qualification
